The apps behind the counts

Each app’s dark stores outside India, and where they are.

How we count

We count dark stores: stores an app runs for its own deliveries, with no walk-in shop. The restaurants and supermarkets the same apps list are not in these numbers. In South Africa, Sixty60 and Pick n Pay ASAP! deliver from supermarkets, so those 590 stores are counted apart and never added to the dark stores.

Talabat, HungerStation, Sixty60, Pick n Pay and foodpanda publish where their stores are. Noon Minutes, Ninja and Carrefour do not, so we place each of their stores in the middle of the area it delivers to, and Krave Mart by the area it serves. Carrefour counts only where a store serves quick commerce alone.

In the countries we count but do not map, Rappi Turbo and PedidosYa Market count one store per building, even where the app lists a building twice under two names, and pandamart in Hong Kong lists some stores a second time for a wider delivery area, so we count each store once. Daki counts only hubs with a stocked shelf. Astro’s app does not say where its hubs are, so in Indonesia we count the 56 hubs GrabMart lists with their locations.

GrabMart is not counted: Grab closed its own dark stores in 2022, and GrabMart lists partner shops, as InstaShop, elGrocer and iFood do. QuickCommerceMap is independent and not affiliated with any of these apps. How we collect the data.
